Udviklingen af de psykiske lidelser kan hæmmes eller standses ved at opbygge netværk for de unge. Det viser evalueringen af 22 socialpsykiatriske projekter for unge med sindslidelser, som SFI har lavet.     Unge med psykiske problemer er ofte ensomme og isolerede. En række projekter med at skabe netværk har haft som formål at bryde de unges ensomhed. Samtidig kan det have en gavnlig virkning på mennesker med sindslidelser, hvis de kan fastholde og styrke deres sociale netværk.
