Selvom Danmark har oplevet en økonomiske optur af historiske dimensioner i de seneste år, lever stadig flere børn under fattigere kår end deres skolekammerater. Det viser en ny rapport, SFI har lavet for Red Barnet.   Fra 2002 til 2006 kom der omkring 10.000 flere relativt fattige børn i Danmark. Det betyder, at der i 2006 var lige under 60.000 børn, hvis familier kun havde halvt så mange penge til rådighed som gennemsnitsdanskeren.
