INVITATION TIL GÅ-HJEM MØDE OM NHRI ERNES ROLLE I GAMLE OG NYE DEMOKRATIER Tirsdag d. 20/11 2007, kl. 15-17 i Nordskov (English below) Hvad skal vi med menneskerettighederne? 13/11/2007 GÅ-HJEM MØDE: Gamle demokratier som fx Danmark og Frankrig har lange traditioner for demokrati og menneskerettigheder. Så hvad skal vi med en institution som Institut for Menneskerettigheder? Læs mere på menneskeret.dk Dear all You are invited to attend the upcoming seminar on the role of NHRI s in old and new democracies. The seminar will take place Tuesday 20th November in Nordskov, from 3pm to 5pm. Questions in focus are among others: * What are the added values of creating NHRIs in advanced democracies? What can be their principal functions in European states? * What factors encourage states to have a NHRI that complies with the Paris Principles? Examples: NGOs urging states to do so, the possibility to be elected at the Human Rights Council (for which having such an NHRI is an important element), NHRIs being given a role in the implementation of the Disability Convention and OPCAT. * What are the possible models of composition in old democracies? Is there one kind of model more adapted to these countries (considering that there are already NGOs and public institutions concerned with human rights in these countries)? * How can a NHRI combine in its work the different aspects of human rights promotion and protection, such as monitoring state action, undertaking research, providing human rights training?
